We are currently recruiting for an experienced Assistant Quarry Manager to manage our friendly operations team at our Tarmac Gore Quarry which is located in Presteigne, Radnorshire, Powys in Wales. The site is easily accessible from Hereford, Hay on Wye, Llandrindod Wells, Builth Wells and the surrounding areas.

Role Responsibility
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Assistant Quarry Manager will be responsible for managing all quarrying operations on the site. Safety and operational standards are the fundamentals of the role with cost control, people management, delivery to customer needs and performance improvement being key. Managing compliance with business policies and procedures and ensuring that legislative compliance is also a strong aspect of the role.
As Assistant Quarry Manager you will also be responsible for:
1. Leading and managing all Tarmac and contractor personnel working on site, with safety as the key priority.
2. Managing, coaching and developing the operational team.
3. Leading change and continuous improvement initiatives, whilst maintaining disciplined stock management processes and operational reports.
4. All aspects of budgetary control for all quarrying operations.
5. Ensuring compliance with all relevant HSE legislation and maintain the site health and safety documents ensuring that all inspections/calibrations/audits are kept up to date and actioned.
6. Managing and overseeing the safe operation of the Plant and planned preventative maintenance of fixed and mobile equipment.
7. Issuing of safety briefings and toolbox talks to your operational team.
8. Proactively managing both mandatory training and developmental training of your onsite team.
9. Collating and reporting on monthly performance KPIs for your business unit and driving operational performance through KPI’s.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for the role of Assistant Quarry Manager will have a Diploma in Quarry Technology/FdSc Extractives Technology or equivalent as well as SHE NVQ Level 4/QCF Level 6. You will also have experience working in an operational management role within the Quarrying or Asphalt sector.
Suitable candidates for the role of Assistant Quarry Manager will also have:
10. Good understanding of different methods for extracting raw material, to include crushing, screening, separation, classification and beneficiation techniques.
11. Understanding Quarry Regulations enabling a Reg 8.1d appointment.
12. Full knowledge of Risk Assessments and Safe System of Work Systems.
13. Ability to multitask and manage change.
14. Working knowledge of production processes as well as Health, Safety and Environmental policies.
15. Strong IT skills – preferably working knowledge of SAP.
16. IOSH/NEBOSH would be advantageous.
This role is working Monday to Friday, flexibility is required to meet with the Plant operational and customer needs.
