Building Surveyor - Scotland
The Role:
Sedgwick Building Consultancy Division is part of Sedgwick International. You will be working within a varied team which includes APC candidates, experienced MRICS surveyors and Chartered Engineers.
Our business has grown considerably over the last few years, with huge opportunities still to be capitalised on in both the insurance and non-insurance markets. To support that growth we have a fantastic opportunity for four Building Surveyors to join our team. This opportunity would be ideal for candidates based in Scotland .
You will be involved in and lead numerous projects to reinstate commercial and domestic properties following damage by an insured peril. Projects typically range in value from £50k to £5m. Dependent on the size and complexity of each project you may work alone or with a small project team working with our QS’s, CAD technicians and engineers.
You will be involved in a wide range of surveying activities, ranging from technical reporting, defects diagnosis, preparing Schedule of Works, contract administration and project management.
You will be able to empathise with clients who may have suffered a loss or bereavement but then able to turn around professional reporting within tight timescales. An ability to manage a workload and make reasoned decisions under pressure is a must.

You will be required to work very closely with colleagues in the Loss Adjusting teams to build relationships. An ability to bring non-insurance clients would be valued. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented Building Surveyor looking to develop their career. You will have/will be:
1. A building related Degree working towards MRICS Chartered Building Surveyor
2. An interest in sustainability and a passion to assist our plans to reach net carbon zero
3. Full UK driving licence essential
4. Extensive knowledge of building construction and relevant legislation
5. Able to plan projects to ensure robust control of time, cost and quality
6. Experience in schedule preparation and contract administration of building projects
7. Highly responsible and decisive, but also a team player
8. Able to proactively manage your own caseload
9. I.T. literate, particularly with MS Word and Excel
10. Able to appreciate the importance of delivering outstanding customer service
The ability to arrive on site immediately following a significant building loss and quickly earn the confidence and trust of the client is essential to the success of this role. Composure under pressure, excellent communications skills and empathy are therefore key attributes.
