Job summary
The Estates department is pleased to offer an opportunity for an enthusiastic, self motivated person with a strong Electrical background to take the role of a Maintenance Supervisor.
You will work with as an integrated member of the Estates team across a multi-discipline of trades. The post holder will be required to be flexible and operate as part of a diverse maintenance team whilst having a wide ranging knowledge of building services, systems Health Technical Memorandum & associated legislation.
The role will also require the post holder to participate in the on-call rota and hold AP/RP duties for an appropriate HTM.
Main duties of the job
Act as a leader and support development of resource in order to achieve satisfactory and effective Estates services management.
Advise on electrical, mechanical or building and environmental works concerning any problematic areas, non-compliance with statutory or mandatory regulations and risks to business continuity in respect of the estate.
Undertake the supervision of labour including being responsible for time keeping, conduct and maintaining proper standards of discipline.
To assist the Maintenance Manager in planning and actioning all remedial and planned preventative works.
To be responsible for ensuring the multi-skilled, multi-disciplined workforce are used in an effective manner, consummate with their skills and promote enhancement of those skills by on site learning from other trades.
To ensure acceptable standards of workmanship from direct and indirect labour.
Responsibility for maintaining Estates equipment, premises and plant.
To provide technical support to staff and be prepared to work directly on plant, equipment and services as may be dictated by the workload, staff availability or deemed necessary by the Maintenance Manager.

Qualifications
Essential
1. Must have served a recognised apprenticeship and be able to produce evidence.
2. Must have a City & Guild craft certificate.
Desirable
3. BTEC or relevant NVQ
4. IT qualification
5. Health & Safety qualification
6. IET certificate in fixed installation testing
7. Trained in the inspection of quick fit scaffold towers
Knowledge and Expertise
Essential
8. Must have a thorough knowledge and expertise of their own core trade as well as other engineering trades
9. Must have good communications skills to enable post holder to provide and receive routine information requiring tact and persuasion and to provide and receive complex or sensitive information. Also, to persuade staff to co-operate with maintenance staff, secures co-operation of staff in implementing operational procedures for new equipment and explain technical issues to non-technical staff.
10. Must be able to plan maintenance and upgrading programmes, plans and adjust staffing levels.
11. Must be able to implement policies for the engineering and building services as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
12. Must be able to enter data, on monitor and computer-based system and produce reports for others.
13. Must be able to train other staff on elements of their own trade.
14. Must be able to plan, execute, inspect, and test new works ensuring compliance with all regulations.

15. Knowledge and experience of building trades
