About the Role
Reporting to the Malt Distilling Technical Manager, the Process Engineer within our Malt Distilling Technical Team will work closely with all our operational sites in Malt Distilling throughout Scotland. It is a key role within our business that involves continually providing technical insights to sustain the continuous operation, as well as improve and enhance the performance of Malt Distilling, including energy, carbon and water efficiency to achieve cost, environmental and energy targets. The role will involve benchmarking internally and externally to identify new technical insights and technologies, to drive increased operational performance.
You will work closely with operational teams to lead and support a range of projects to improve operational performance across 30 Distilleries, 4 Maltings and 5 Bioplants. The role will develop and support ground-breaking initiatives in partnership with operations to sustain and improve performance in the future.
This role will be based full-time in Elgin, Scotland. The successful candidate will need to be in a position to attend Moray House daily, as well as other sites as required.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Benchmarking internally and externally to identify new technical insights to unlock performance pushing the boundaries to breakthrough performance.
2. Building and sustaining working collaborations with functional partners within malt distilling (Technical specialists, project engineering, risk & governance, procurement) to deliver comprehensive solutions to challenges.
3. Supporting continuous improvement and problem-solving activities by providing / utilising technical knowledge and experience presented in a logical and codified way utilising data analysis techniques and tools.
4. Being a role model and champion, the use of data and analytics tools and systemic root cause problem-solving tools within Malt Distilling.
5. Identifying need for multi-disciplinary problem-solving teams to address systemic problems.
6. A strong understanding of Process safety – and the ability to help support toward a strong safety culture.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
7. Bachelor’s degree level qualification or equivalent in the Chemical Engineering field.
8. Experience in providing technical insights to support the delivery of projects.
9. Experience working in partnership with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
10. Track record of phenomenal stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
11. Experienced in statistical analysis tools and Microsoft Packages.
12. Technical experience in an FMCG or Distilling environment, preferably a fast-paced operations-facing role or sited in a technical support role.
13. Written and verbal technical communication and presentation skills.
14. Full Clean driving license due to the travel requirements in this role.
