The inpatient pharmacy at East Lancashire Teaching Hospital provides a range of services to patients across East Lancashire.

We are rolling out a development pathway for pharmacy technicians from Band 4 to Band 5 later this year. This is a great time to make the move as your experience and transitional skills will be accounted for. You will be supported to complete a development progression program, if you wish to develop beyond this role. We will be happy to discuss this in more detail at the interview process.
Main duties of the job
Our rotational teams provide services across several areas including:
1. Dispensary and controlled drug management
2. Reconciling patient medication histories at ward level, ordering new supplies of medications, and supporting discharge planning
3. Medicines management duties such as monitoring the security and storage conditions of medicines in clinical areas
4. Providing counselling and advice on best use of medicines to patients
5. Working in our aseptic unit to prepare IV medications
6. Monitoring and managing specialist medications
7. Stock management

The inpatient hospital services operate during core hours from 08:00 to 19:00. Our standard working hours are 09:00 to 17:30, with 1 in 8 weekends worked for lieu days, or overtime. We are happy to talk flex, as we have worked hard to ensure our existing team find a role to fit around commitments outside of work.

8. Support the Assistant Directors of Pharmacy in providing a high quality, cost effective and efficient patient centred pharmacy service to the Trust
9. Work in partnership with the Lead Technician, Senior Technicians and the High level technicians in the provision of a high quality, cost effective and efficient patient centred pharmacy service to the Trust
10. Maintain and develop the highest standards of patient-focused care in the provision of technical services
11. Support the governance and medicines risk management agenda locally
12. Support the development of the technician and assistant teams to complement and facilitate multidisciplinary working
13. Act as a role model in the field of clinical technician pharmacy practice and provide a consistently high level of pharmaceutical service in line with corporate objectives and government initiatives
14. Support the agreed policies and procedures for safe medicines use and support mechanisms to promote high quality medicine use, effective risk management, clinical governance and adherence to Trust policies and guidelines concerning medicines use contribute to the development of the service
