Job Description
Financial Controller – Drive Financial Excellence at Lancashire Cricket
Lancashire Cricket is looking for a skilled and proactive Financial Controller to join our team. Based at our iconic venue, this is a vital role where you’ll oversee and manage the company’s financial operations, ensuring compliance with all financial laws and regulations. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, you’ll play a key part in shaping financial strategies and delivering excellence in all aspects of financial management.
The Impact You’ll Make
As Financial Controller, you’ll take ownership of key financial processes, from preparing statutory accounts and budgets to overseeing management reporting and cashflow forecasting. You’ll lead the preparation of monthly management accounts, providing insights into business performance, and collaborate with department heads to achieve financial goals.
You’ll manage a dedicated finance team, fostering their development while ensuring efficient purchasing controls and compliance with payroll and tax obligations. Supporting the CFO and wider Executive Team, you’ll contribute to strategy planning, pricing structures, and revenue optimization.
Additionally, you’ll maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including the bank, external auditors, and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Your role will also involve managing financial aspects of contracts, insurance, and external catering while ensuring robust reporting for major events such as international matches and The Hundred.
Your Skills and Experience
You’ll bring practical knowledge of financial legislation, compliance requirements, and exceptional financial accounting skills. Your technical expertise will be paired with a solid understanding of risk management, IT systems, and advanced Excel skills.
Experience in the hospitality sector, particularly at a sports or event-based venue, will give you an edge in understanding our unique business model. You’ll be adept at managing multiple projects, delivering to deadlines, and generating new ideas to drive positive change.
A strong communicator and team player, you’ll be comfortable building rapport with suppliers, agencies, and key department managers. Your ability to provide explanations, challenge constructively, and communicate confidently at board level will be critical to your success.
Leadership is central to this role—you’ll successfully train, mentor, and delegate tasks to team members while fostering a culture of growth and development within the finance department.
