We are looking for someone to manage our small but friendly, enthusiastic and dedicated Governance Team.This is a high profile post offering a chance to manage the Governance Team in North East Derbyshire District Council and thus to manage the Council’s formal meetings.
You should be able to demonstrate experience of leading a Governance team within a local authority or in a relevant sector background or the strong desire to do so. You should be able to demonstrate how you will provide effective supervision to Team members as well as managing a significant workload yourself. You will be operating at a corporate level so will need to demonstrate a good understanding of the Council’s delivery ambitions and how these will be achieved as well as demonstrating your significant experience.
The postholder will provide expert advice to the Assistant Director Governance & Monitoring Officer, the Managing Director, Directors, Assistant Directors and Senior Officers and Elected Members in the Council.
You will advise on the operation of democratic processes, both Executive and non-Executive including the Cabinet and Scrutiny Committees as well as the Regulatory Committees. You will also advise on the operation of the Constitution and engage with the Standards Committee in its annual review. In addition, you will develop the skills, expertise and experience of the individuals in the Team under your management in accordance with the Council’s One Team ethos.
The role will involve introducing relevant new technology and implementing changes to existing technology.
You need to be politically astute, diplomatic, able to respond positively to challenges and demanding deadlines, able to ensure strong governance for the Council and inspire confidence in the service you run from those using it.
If selected to interview, you will be expected to explain what you consider to be the main issues facing the service and the major changes you would make if appointed and demonstrate how you would manage the Team and develop them as individuals and Governance Team Members. In addition, you will be expected to present what you have achieved in your current role.
