Description
ASA are currently working with a large-scale client in the public sector who are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Financial Accountant to join their Finance team. This role requires a qualified accountant with significant experience in financial accounting or audit within a large organisation. Ideally, you will also have experience in taxation and/or treasury. You will be key in providing financial information, ensuring compliance with accounting rules, and adapting to regulatory changes.
Key Responsibilities:
· Treasury Management: Use your financial expertise to manage the organisations cash flow, deposits, and borrowings. Ensure compliance with the Treasury Management Policy and contribute to its ongoing development.
· Management Information: Provide timely, clear, and strategic financial information related to cash and borrowings. Support financial planning, governance, control, budgeting, forecasting, and stakeholder reporting.
· Financial Statements: Collaborate in preparing annual financial statements, producing deliverables for specific income, expenditure, and balance sheet areas. Liaise with external auditors as necessary.
· Monthly Management Information: Produce robust financial reports and analyses, offering expert recommendations on key areas of focus.
· Financial Planning and Reporting: Participate in major financial planning exercises, including the Annual Plan, Strategic Plan Forecasts, and Quarterly Reviews.
· Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of changing technical accounting requirements, communicate their impact on financial reporting, and advise both finance and non-finance stakeholders accordingly.
· Data Returns: Ensure accurate and timely completion of external data returns, including HESA and other information requests from external stakeholders.
· Insurance Management: Lead and liaise with insurers regarding claims, updating policies, and supporting procedures.
· Continuous Improvement: Promote a culture of continuous improvement, applying professional standards, and demonstrating ownership and accountability to deliver excellent services.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
· Degree: Educated to degree level or equivalent.
· Professional Membership: Membership of a recognised accounting professional body.
· Experience: Substantial experience in financial/management accounting or audit roles within large, complex organisations.
Key Skills:
· Excellent written and presentation skills, capable of conveying complex financial information to diverse audiences.
· Strong administrative and organisational skills, able to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
· High-level IT proficiency, particularly in Word and Excel, with the ability to structure, analyse, and interpret complex financial data.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate effectively.
· Self-motivated, able to work under pressure and tight timescales, independently or as part of a team.
