The Role
To assist the Head of Group Transport in developing, leading and managing the Plant and Transport activities of the business.
Enabling the company to deliver the highest levels of customer service whilst ensuring that the business operates safely, legally, ethically and with environmentally sound principles.
There are 150 vehicles within the group and the role requires being responsible for roughly 30% of our network / fleet.
This role is a remote position that will be based in branches around Surrey and Sussex 3 days per week with 2 days per week based at our Head Office location which is in Colney Heath - postcode - AL4 0PG.
During 2025, this will change to 4 days in branches and 1 day at head office with the Transport Team.

Key Responsibilities...
To assist the Head of Group Transport with:
Ensuring that the Health & Safety of everyone who comes into contact with Lawsons is the foremost consideration in any decision making process.
Being a strong advocate of Lawsons Mission and Values, reinforcing the company's ethos "Family Values - Professional Service" throughout your team and the wider business.
Responsibility for compliance within your region with Company and Statutory requirements regarding operator licence, health & safety, service, quality, driver's hours and tacho requirements.
Support with ongoing training programmes for new and existing drivers to ensure that they operate safely, legally and are great ambassadors for Lawsons.
Enforce current legislation and keep the business informed of up and coming changes.
Support in the management with procurement of plant, vehicles and ancillary items, ensuring that expenditure is controlled and within budget.
Monitor driver behaviour and proactively deal with any adverse feedback to ensure that Lawsons are regarded in positive manner.
Strive to maximise fleet efficiency to maximise payload and reduce cost without compromising safety or service levels.
Continuously reviewing existing processes and exploring alternative solutions with Transport Management Team.
Collating and analysing data pertaining to all transport activities in your region.
Effectively communicate with the Transport Management Team to achieve business objectives.
Support the Transport Management Team with Improvement & Development projects.
Undertaking any other duties which may be requested by the Board, for which training and/or explanation has been provided and understood.
Person Profile:
Essential Requirements:
Good leadership skills and experience.
Impressive, demonstrable track record and skills/experience gained within a similar position.
CPC Holder
A good geographical knowledge of distribution area.
Good communicator (written and verbal) at all levels.
The ability to build strong internal and external relationships to gain support and strengthen the company's profile.
Expert negotiating and influencing skills.
Team Player at all levels with a hands-on approach.
To work cross functionally and recognise impact of own actions on others.
Passionate about achieving high levels of excellence.
Commercially astute and customer focussed.

Previously experience gained within the Timber and Building Merchants industry.
