Horticulture Teaching Assistant

GSL Education Hull is looking for a dedicated Horticulture Teaching Assistant to join one of our SEMH Schools in Market Weighton. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in students' lives while developing your own skills and progressing into a teaching role.

- It is a Special Education school catering to students who may have complex needs including Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties.

Job Summary:
* Support the teacher in delivering horticulture lessons, helping to create a structured and engaging learning environment.
* Provide one-on-one or small group support to students, helping them understand and complete horticulture-related tasks and projects.
* Modify and adapt learning materials to meet the specific needs of each student, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility.
Horticulture Teaching Assistant Role:
* Develop and deliver engaging horticulture lessons tailored to the diverse needs of students.
* Work with small groups of students, creating an inclusive learning environment that promotes participation and enjoyment.
* Utilize the garden and greenhouse for practical lessons, instilling a love for nature and the environment.
* Assess and monitor student progress, offering constructive feedback and support.
* Collaborate with other staff to integrate horticulture into broader educational goals.
* Ensure the safety and well-being of students during horticultural activities.
* Maintain the garden and greenhouse, involving students in their upkeep and care.
The successful candidate will:
* Possess a degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, Education, or a related discipline.
* Open to considering a Teaching Assistant who has strong skills in gardening and outdoor nature activities.
* Preferably have experience working with children who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
* Demonstrate a solid understanding of horticulture practices and the capability to teach these skills practically (Gardening experience a minimum of two years).
* Exhibit patience, empathy, and enthusiasm for working with children with diverse needs.
* Have excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
* Show a commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
