Our English department hosts a dedicated team of enthusiastic professionals whose aim is to drive our passion for excellent communication skills throughout the school. This is supported by the wider school community which is wholly focused on providing every opportunity for students to perform to their very best.
English is taught as a subject across Key Stage 3. We are very proud of our new concept driven approach to the curriculum. At KS4 the school follows the WJEC specification for English Language and English Literature. All lessons are taught across well-equipped classrooms. The department has very high expectations of students which is evident in their excellent standards at GCSE which are higher than the Welsh average and the LEA, guided by a talented Director of Language, Literacy and Communication and their team.
Within our Literacy Language and Communication AOLE team, there is a wealth of experience, good practice and commitment. We have one Director of Faculty who oversees three Lead Practitioners for English, Welsh and MFL. The faculty works closely together, believing in collaboration and the sharing of ideas to develop professional expertise in order to enhance the learning experience of our students.
All new members of staff receive a very strong programme of induction, which includes an allocated member of staff to support with the operational elements of joining a new school, as well as a tailored support package to meet individual needs. All teaching staff are also issued with a school 2-in-1 laptop device.
The right candidate will be expected to contribute to the development of the curriculum in line with Curriculum for Wales and teach across both key stages. Qualifications / Experience:
1. Good honours degree subject related.
2. PGCE/Qualified teacher status.
3. Excellent classroom practitioner.
