We are recruiting for an Accountant to join a business services firm on the outskirts of Milton Keynes that provides accounting support, tax services, business advice and R&D tax relief service to businesses. The role will be on a hybrid basis with at least one day per week in the office and will include visiting client sites as required.

As Accountant you will manage a portfolio of clients to ensure the timely completion of statutory accounts, compliance-based outputs and other advisory requests and ensure the timely completion of bookkeeping records, management accounts, statutory accounts, and advisory requests.
Reporting to the Head of Accountancy, as Accountant your responsibilities will include:
Complete Accounting assignments for clients to the highest standard and to deadline prepare client statutory accounts ready for final sign-off by Head of Department
Ensure accounting and tax standards are followed
Review work prepared by trainees on your behalf
Review tax computations, VAT returns, reports and/or accounts for clients to the highest standard
Develop understanding of client needs (including sector, industry and economy)
Work on ad hoc projects as required
Support the Head of Department in seeking opportunities for innovation and continuous improvements
Remain up to date with the latest standards in accounting and tax, ensuring that both through your own CPD (to meet the requirements of ACCA, ACA or other regulatory body) and team members development, are implementing best practice
Maintain and keep up to date various business systems such as Monday.com, MyWorkPapers, IRIS, Xero, Hubspot, PeopleHR, and any other software or monitoring spreadsheets used within the firm
Undertake research as requested to assist senior members of the team with client assignments
Prepare articles etc for marketing to build the departments brand
Attend and contribute as appropriate to client meetings
Undertake any and all AML activities and training in line with the Company AML policy and procedures in a timely manner

Appropriate professional qualification (ACCA, ACA or equivalent)
Considerable experience of preparing and submitting annual statutory accounts under FRS 105 and 102 (1a), to a high standard, gained within a UK accountancy practice environment
Appropriate CPD with relevant professional body
Significant taxation experience
Experience of VAT and payroll/journals would be beneficial
Good general IT skills and knowledge and experience of accounting/tax software
Extremely organised with personal efficiency, time management skills
Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written
Strong commercial acumen with the ability to spot opportunities and build client relationships
Ability to work well under pressure and prioritise competing demands
Awareness of Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations training will be provided
Awareness of GDPR regulations training will be provided
