Job summary
We are looking for an experienced, dynamic and enthusiastic clinical pharmacist to lead our cardiology and cardiothoracic service.
The post holder will be an expert in cardiac medicine and a key member of the multidisciplinary team.
You will be supported by our Senior Pharmacist for Cardiac Services, rotational pharmacists, medicines management technicians and a medicines management assistant.
You will lead the provision and development of clinical and operational pharmaceutical services to our Heart and Lung Centre. This is a state-of-the-art, purpose built unit that opened in October 2004. It provides surgical and cardiological treatment of cardiac and lung disease to a population of over million in and around the Black Country.
Main duties of the job
To lead the provision and development of clinical pharmacy services to the cardiology and cardiothoracic directorates, including clinical, governance and operational functions.
To work as independent prescriber on wards and in outpatient clinics.
To attend and participate in multidisciplinary meetings, providing expert pharmaceutical advice and guidance.
To provide specialist clinical pharmacy advice to patients and liaise with consultant and nursing teams to support safe and appropriate prescribing .
To lead, manage and develop the pharmacy staff providing clinical services to the Cardiac Services Group.
To attend and actively participate in Directorate Management and Governance meetings and to work collaboratively with the Directorate Management Teams.
The post holder will be joining and working in a large and progressive pharmacy department, which delivers near patient ward pharmacy services, has automated dispensing, electronic medicines management and has implemented electronic prescribing across the majority of the organisation. The pharmacy department has close links with the Schools of Pharmacy at Wolverhampton University, University of Birmingham and Aston University with members of staff holding joint appointments, and is actively involved in teaching undergraduate students and learning beyond registration.

1. Masters (or equivalent) degree in pharmacy
2. Membership of General Pharmaceutical Council
3. Postgraduate clinical diploma or equivalent qualification
4. Independent Prescribing Qualification

5. Formal leadership or management qualification
Experience and Skills

6. Substantial post registration experience
7. Recent experience working as an independent prescriber
8. Experience of supervising staff
9. Experience of developing and implementing policies, procedures, guidelines and patient group directions
10. Able to demonstrate a working knowledge of cardiac medicine
11. Significant experience working as a senior clinical pharmacist in a hospital setting
12. Experience working in the cardiology speciality
