Thames Valley Gay Chorus is looking for a new Musical Director to start in May 2023. TVGC is a dedicated LGBTQ+ SATB choir, inclusive of everyone regardless of identity, experience, or ability. We celebrated our 20th anniversary last year. Our aim is to create a safe space within which members can develop their skills in singing while taking advantage of the wide array of social opportunities offered by the group.
We are based in Caversham, Reading, with approximately 23 members currently.
The choir rehearses from 4 - 6 PM on Sundays, except for scheduled breaks. We may consider changing the rehearsal day for the right candidate.
We are looking for someone who can lead rehearsals, teaching a range of songs to a mixed-ability choir, building on the vocal skills and confidence of members. We would like the MD to help build local LGBTQ+ connections and put together a varied and exciting set of music for performances throughout the year, including self-organized concerts (usually July and December) as well as performing at local, community-based events including Pride and the Transgender Day of Remembrance Vigil.
The MD will work with the choir's committee to help meet the objectives of the choir. The position is paid, and the rate will be dependent on experience.
As part of the recruitment process, the applicant will be required to conduct a rehearsal (1 hour) teaching the choir one or two pieces of music they are enthusiastic about. This will include accompanying the choir on the keyboard. There will also be a short interview.
To apply, please email thamesvalleygaychorus@gmail.com with a CV and covering letter by the end of the day Sunday, 21st April 2024.
Further information about the choir can be found at thamesvalleygaychorus.org.uk.
