Lead Standards Development Manager

About the role
The Lead Standards Development Manager (LSDM) is responsible for responding to emerging opportunities to grow a portfolio of standards and committees. Engaging with industry experts, government stakeholders, trade associations, and consumers, they are responsible for developing a work programme that meets stakeholder objectives, addresses market needs, and reflects good business practices.
They will manage a portfolio of priority standards development committees, projects, and programmes across both national and international settings. Proactive and forward-thinking in their approach, the LSDM is responsible for planning and implementing the long-term strategic development of their portfolio of standards development committees.
The LSDM will work with the Head of Standards Development for Voluntary Carbon Markets to develop standards in this space. A knowledge or experience of Net Zero, carbon credits and climate issues would be highly advantageous.
Responsibilities:
1. Be the expert in standardisation within your committees; provide advice and guidance to the Chair, participants, and stakeholders during meetings and otherwise
2. Pro-actively manage committees of experts to identify needs for, and the development of, new standards
3. Plan the future development of your committees and committee structures to address existing and emerging areas of standardization and deliver committee operating plans, development plans, and reviews
4. To build committees, whether new or existing, ensuring that committees are inclusive, diverse, and balanced in terms of race, sex, age, background, and regional representation; interview Chairs and onboard new members
5. Take an active role in international and European standardisation, to ensure UK objectives are met
6. Collaborate with executives and stakeholders to develop long-term strategic goals for expanding standards adoption
7. Develop links with relevant government departments and industry bodies to build networks, raise awareness of standards, gain support for committee initiatives, and identify areas for future work.
8. Identify high-profile and high-revenue areas of work, prepare business cases, and work with colleagues to create realistic publication and marketing plans

13. Project management skills - the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
14. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with people at different levels of seniority from various professional backgrounds
