Overall job purpose
You will be a key member of the growing financial reportingadvisory national team, with a focus on the clients within the London andSouthern region. As an assistant manager you will support the wider team andassist managers to profitably deliver work across a portfolio of corporateclients, focusing on technical accounting, financial reporting andconsolidations. This will include the practical application of accountingstandards under FRS 102, IFRS and FRS 101, group reconstructions and accountingconsiderations, conversion to different GAAPs, technical accounting papers andacquisition accounting support. The role would also include the preparation and/ormanaging of statutory accounts under IFRS and FRS 101.
The fast growth of the department will create opportunitiesto develop further skill sets including business development and coaching ofjunior staff. It will also present an opportunity to work with a variety ofcolleagues and businesses across the UK, as well as supporting your localoffice. A strong understanding of UK GAAP and IFRS accounting principles isessential. Financial reporting advisory projects usually take the form of areport, therefore good quality report writing skills are also required.
Responsibilities
* Supporting managers to deliver complex accountancy related projects for clients as they arise, for example IFRS transition consultancy work or support on acquisition accounting and complex consolidations.
* To develop and maintain an advanced level of technical knowledge through appropriate reading and courses, and to fulfil the professional bodies’ CPD requirements including maintaining an awareness of the firm’s specialist services and publications.
* To act as a focal point of contact with the clients, and to communicate any problems or any contentious issues identified to the manager or responsible partner, and to identify / form suggested solutions.
* Management of a portfolio of clients and projects, including client care responsibilities, project management and WIP/billing management.
* To liaise with other departments within the office, especially the audit and tax teams. To ensure that agreed deadlines are met and significant issues are resolved in a timely manner.
* To act as a coach to more junior members of the team and to participate in staff training and supervision as required. This role has the opportunity for line management of junior staff depending on experience.
* A willingness to travel to client’s premises is required, however, the significant proportion of work is likely to be office-based.
Personal and professional qualities
The role requires:
* ACA qualified or equivalent.
* UK GAAP and IFRS financial reporting experience.
* Experience of working in a professional practice, ideally in an equivalent accounting advisory team or experience providing written accounting advice to clients.
* A strong understanding of UK financial reporting requirements.
* Ability to demonstrate commercial awareness and to add value.
* Strong project management and organisational skills.
* Strong oral and written communication skills.
* Experience of working with clients.
* Experience of supervision of junior staff.
* Experience of Microsoft Office, with high competency with both Excel and Word.
