Welfare Benefits and Money Advisor
Salary: £29,000 - £32,000 depending on experience
Contract: Permanent
Hours: 37.5 per week Monday - Friday 09.00 - 17.00
Travel: Travel across multiple sites in Greater Manchester will be required. We currently have offices in Wigan, Bolton, Bury, Rochdale, Oldham, Manchester City Centre, Stockport and Tameside. (Your base office will be discussed at interview depending on your home address location).
Our Debt Advisor will take referrals from Restart Advisors and set SMART Action plans which will be tracked and monitored.
Our Debt Advisor will also provide participants on the Restart Scheme with informed support, appropriate information and specialist advice to alleviate the additional stress generated by their financial circumstances and subsequently, allowing them to focus on getting back into Sustainable Employment.
Essential Criteria:
* Recent experience of providing debt advice, and have successfully completed the Certificate in Money Advice Practice.
As our Welfare Benefits & Money Advisor, you will:
* Provide confidential advice and support to participants referred to you, including supporting with money solutions and income maximisation.
* Manage a caseload and work with participants on their action plan to improve their financial situation and review their progress regularly.
* Work closely with the wider Delivery Team to adhere to the contract requirements in respect of performance outcomes, commercial compliance and quality of service.
* Liaise with third parties, as appropriate, including creditors, DWP, Job Centre Plus, landlords, utility companies etc. on behalf of the participant regarding arrears, repayments, and other debt issues.
* Provide money advice group sessions, workshops and briefings for participants, including opening a bank or post office account, budgeting, understanding credit options etc.
* Maintain accurate up-to-date records of all participant cases after every contact with the individual and/or other agencies.
* Set up payment plans with utilities providers and submit applications to utilities trust funds on behalf of the participant.
* Keep up to date with legislation, policies and procedures relating to casework and attend relevant subject-based training, briefings and networking events with the Institute of Money Advisers and other bodies.
As our Welfare Benefits and Money Advisor, you'll have:
* Experience of working in a busy, evolving environment with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
* Experience of working in a performance target-driven environment, such as business to business sales or equivalent.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to persuade, influence and listen to others.
* The ability to effectively network to build and maintain effective relationships internally and externally.
* High level digital literacy skills, and data accuracy skills, including strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and web-based communication technologies.
