Job summary
This post presents an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic individual with advanced diabetes clinical skills to lead the Diabetes Service for York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals. As the lead Nurse for Diabetes within our Trust, the post holder plays a critical role in ensuring diabetes nursing care is of the highest standard.
The successful candidate will be highly motivated, adaptable, with a high degree of personal and professional autonomy and will be an expert practitioner in the field of Diabetes Nursing, providing strategic, clinical leadership across the organisation. Seeking to improve the quality of care provision for patients with diabetes. This will be achieved with strong links with the Diabetes Networks, primary and secondary care and the voluntary sector. The Lead Nurse will also provide professional nurse leadership to all care groups hosting diabetes services, including community.
Main duties of the job
The Diabetes Lead Nurse will:
1. Provide professional leadership to the nursing workforce within Diabetes and Endocrine and progress diabetes nursing inline with local, regional and national policies.
2. Lead the development of the specialty service and contribute to the strategic direction of nursing within the trust.
3. Act as a role model, demonstrating and setting high standards of care and providing clinical leadership to others.
4. Work with the clinical lead for Diabetes and Endocrinology & Chief Nurse team to develop and facilitate the implementation of a strategy of diabetes nursing to meet the needs of patients both in hospital and in the community.
5. Collate and record quantitative and qualitative data that provide evidence of productivity, outcomes and quality through audit and research.
6. Offer professional advice and expertise that influences the development of local diabetes strategies and implementation plans.
7. The lead diabetes nurse will play an integral role in the delivery of the Nursing and Midwifery strategy.
