Cambridge University Libraries wishes to appoint three Library Assistants to support the delivery of library services for students, academics and researchers. Each of the roleholders will be based in a different library, as follows:
1. Divinity Faculty Library: a part-time Library Assistant (16 hours per week). The hours are to be worked across four days, from 10am-2pm. The working pattern should be fixed, but there is flexibility on which is the non-working day.
2. Haddon Library: a full-time Library Assistant (36.5 hours per week). The normal working pattern is from 8:45am to 5:15pm, Monday to Friday, with one early finish per week.
3. English Faculty Library: a full-time Library Assistant (36.5 hours per week). The normal working pattern is from 8:45am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
About the role
Each roleholder will be an essential person within a small team, consisting of the Librarian and a Senior Library Assistant. A core part of each role will be the provision of effective, inclusive frontline services to library users, online and in person, assisting them with navigating the collections and services offered, as well as dealing with a broad range of enquiries. The postholders will have a variety of responsibilities, including managing the borrowing and return of books and other items, shelving, updating and checking reading lists, and assisting with classifying and basic cataloguing of new material acquired for the library. They will contribute to library inductions and to website, LibGuides and social media content.
You will have experience working in a customer-facing role and will be able to demonstrate a commitment to delivering excellent customer service. You will have good IT skills and be able to communicate with people effectively both in writing and verbally, able to work unsupervised on routine tasks, show attention to detail, and be willing to contribute to the delivery of outstanding library services.
