About the Team
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a friendly and supportive team who work to secure the best value public transport available for our residents. Putting buses at the heart of our new and emerging Surrey Transport Plan, the delivery of which is key to our Greener Futures Programme, is key to providing a realistic and attractive alternative to the private car. This will help us reduce the carbon emissions that come from the transport sector in the county, forming part of our pathway to net zero carbon.
Working with the 20+ bus operators in Surrey we facilitate a sustainable and attractive network of local bus services for our residents. We deliver best value for money services, assist operators when roads are close by finding alternative routes, facilitate the introduction of zero emission buses and we keep our residents and the general travelling public updated on service changes.
About the Role
This role will be supporting the Local Bus Team in proactively managing road closures and bus stop suspensions that could have an impact on local bus services in the county. Local bus services provide access to key services for our residents, including access to employment, education, health, and essential shopping. Our contracted bus services support those provided commercially which means a keen understanding of bus network operations and a proven ability to work in partnership is vital to maximise positive outcomes for the council and residents. As part of this, you will assist with the growth of the existing positive partnership ethos with our local bus operators, ensuring that bus services are supported.
This role will liaise with a multitude of agencies including bus companies, Highways colleagues, utility companies, and TfL regarding works on our highway. We are responsible for ensuring the best alternative diversion routes are chosen when roads are closed and effectively, communicating road closures and bus stop suspensions to minimise any inconvenience to our residents, the travelling public and our bus operators.
Notification of road closures and bus stop suspensions are received throughout the day and require action to work with the affected bus operators on the best diversion route available for their services. Information notices, to inform the bus passengers, need to be created for our Inspectors to post in the bus stops. The post holder will also order any bus stop maintenance parts requested by the four Infrastructure Inspectors when bus stops are damaged or require general repair.
We are looking for an individual who is enthusiastic and proactive as well as being a motivated team player. You must have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills with the ability to deal with conflicting priorities in tight deadlines.
