Job Summary
This is no ordinary mechanic role. The National Motor Museum at Beaulieu is looking for a Workshop Engineer to help care for the maintenance of the vehicle collection and the historic exhibits, as well as the monorail, vintage bus, and company cars and trailers.
Responsibilities
* To maintain, repair and restore Museum exhibits and other vehicles as directed.
* Manage and complete H&S documentation.
* To maintain and repair Rides & Drives to ADIPS Standards and HSG175 or equivalent.
* To prepare vehicles for events, shows, rallies, and hire and attend events as requested.
* To assist in the transportation, delivery, and collection of vehicles for events, shows, and rallies, including accompanying the vehicles as directed.
* To drive vehicles for film work, hire, etc.
* To assist and work with the Curatorial and Learning Team of the NMMT to deliver the exhibits and relocation of the vehicles as part of the temporary displays and permanent exhibitions.
* Engage with museum audiences when required to provide information on the collection and its conservation to members of the public, employees, or other parties.
* To undertake any other reasonable tasks as requested by the Senior Engineer or Museum Technical & Operations Manager. This may involve working outside normal working hours.
* Expected to work as part of a team ensuring safety precautions are adhered to at all times while being accountable for the care, maintenance, and inspections of the passenger carrying rides, in accordance with all relevant legislations.
Skills & Experience Required
* Apprentice trained motor vehicle mechanic.
* Experience with heritage motor vehicles is essential.
* City and Guilds / IMI qualified or equivalent.
* Full UK Driving Licence.
* Knowledge and practice of safe working in a vehicle workshop setting, including manual handling.
* Physically able to facilitate the movement of vehicles with the assistance of other team members.
* Ability to work as part of a team and on your own.
* Good time management.
* Excellent communication skills.
* The ability to work under pressure during busy periods.
* Fabrication and bodywork skills would be advantageous.
Due to the location of this role, it is essential that you have your own transport to be able to access the site. Beaulieu is remote and has no local transport links.
