About the role
This role will be responsible for supporting the Electrical, Toys, Gifts and Beauty leadership team in the commercial delivery of the department, resulting in improved efficiencies, maximised sales potential, and margin gain.
The role will focus on the big questions facing the department, building relationships and working with leaders across the business to identify and set our strategic ambition for the next 3 years. The role will also include responsibility for ensuring our commercial plan aligns to our strategic plans, whilst keeping regular communication with senior leaders on our progression.
As the Senior Commercial Manager, you will focus on driving growth by partnering with various departments to create business cases for sales initiatives. You will play a pivotal role in decision-making and influencing the prioritisation and execution of these initiatives. A significant part of your role will involve providing data and analysis to support supplier terms negotiations, driving decision making across the wider category teams.
Key responsibilities:
* Contribute to the development of the Electrical, Toys, Gifts and Beauty Strategies. This will involve working with business leaders to continually define our strategic ambition over the next 3-5 years and identify how we will measure our performance as we deliver them.
* Responsible for staying on top of macro retail trends, competitor movements and new entrants in the market and the implications for The Very Group.
* Develop a thorough understanding of the commercial performance of our strategic brands and use this insight to support and recommend actions and business plans.
* Identify and evaluate new opportunities for Electrical, Toys, Gifts and Beauty, working with category teams to assess opportunities from a customer, commercial and delivery perspective.
* Oversee the department's terms proposals and develop new terms proposals that align with the changing business landscape, leveraging Financial Services and marketing data.
* Generate and analyse insights for negotiating terms with branded suppliers.
* Engage in negotiations with brands to achieve commercial benefits and collaborate with category teams to monitor and enhance terms proposals for continuous commercial growth.
* Gather, manipulate, and analyse large data sets from multiple sources to support modelling sales and margin opportunities as well as to answer both short term trading and longer-term critical questions.
* Prepare high impact and high-quality presentations for senior leadership.
