We are looking to recruit an experienced and empathetic Principal Psychologist to oversee the psychological services across two adult acute wards and a male PICU. The successful applicant will join a dedicated team that has made significant strides in enhancing the quality of service by focusing on collaborative formulations, group psychology, and individual therapy. A key aspect of the role will be to place a strong emphasis on risk assessment and management at a leadership level.
The successful candidate will be expected to optimally utilise the psychological resources available on the wards, striving to improve their effectiveness and efficiency wherever possible.
Support for the role will be provided by the Consultant Clinical Psychologist, and the position will be integrated within a network of Psychologists within the Suffolk region.
Additionally, the appointee will take the lead in facilitating reasonable adjustments for individuals with Learning Disabilities or neurodiversity.

Main duties of the job
1. Leading effectively and efficiently in the utilisation of psychological resources within the wards, supervising the Assistant Psychologist, and maintaining flexibility and autonomy in resource allocation.
2. Offering supervision to the more junior Psychological positions.
3. Leading on psychologically informed risk assessment and formulation, responding to the recent criticism of general risk assessment measures.
4. Leading on the more complex patient presentations and supporting the other members of the team in their work with patients.
5. Contributing to effective MDT working.
6. Providing concise training sessions for the staff team.
7. Taking charge of the Debrief system in the wards to ensure it's impactful and helps mitigate the long-term effects of incidents.
8. Guiding staff towards suitable support services.
9. Comprehending the system's complex challenges and positively influencing the system.

1. Provide comprehensive specialist clinical psychology assessment of complex clients within the service.
2. Identify the nature, severity and complexity of service users' mental health problems.
3. Advise both service users and members of the team on the appropriate management of those problems.
4. Lead on psychological formulations for clients to inform treatment and management plans.
5. Undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual service users.
6. Provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other colleagues.
7. Evaluate and make decisions about treatment options.
8. Exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the efficiency of all aspects of the clinical psychology service provided.
9. Communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of service users.
10. Discharge statutory social care functions as delegated under the Section 75 agreement with Norfolk and Suffolk County Councils for Service Users and Carers.
11. Provide appropriate health and social care interventions according to service users' recovery goals.
12. Assess health and social care needs as part of an integrated team.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
* Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology, or its equivalent, including eligibility for chartered status with the BPS.
* Registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Desirable
* Evidence of CPD in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice.
Experience
Essential
* Specialist complex psychological assessment and treatment of people with a wide range of mental health problems, of varying severity and complexity.
* Extensive experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist.
* Teaching, training and delivering clinical supervision.
Desirable
* Experience leading services.
