Job summary
Portsmouth Radiotherapy department covers a wide catchment area, treating patients from Portsmouth, Southampton, West Sussex and the Isle of Wight. As well as a daily routine of scanning, planning and treating patients, we also offer an out of hours service at the weekends.

Main duties of the job
We offer all new recruits preceptorship as per AHP/HCPC's guidance. The process can be taken over 6-12months depending on point of entry and previous experiences. Our preceptorship model includes 1:1 discussion meetings with preceptor, assigned education sessions, reflective practice, clinical activities and patient case studies, all combined to meet development objectives and support the transition from newly qualified into a fully confident and competent practitioner.
We have four TrueBeam linear accelerators which include advanced IGRT imaging such as online 4DCBCT, iCBCT and triggered imaging. 6DOF couches in use for H+N, upper GI and Lung SABR patients, alongside abdomen compression immobilisation. We have a wide-bore Siemens GOSIM CT scanner, alongside Brachytherapy, Orthovoltage and on-treatment review services. All systems are linked together using ARIA in a completely paperless department.
We have trained 3 Consultant Radiographers in Breast/Urology/Palliative and are are actively developing new ACP opportunities. We have a number of apprentice radiographer undergraduate and postgraduate roles in post and have recently invested in enhanced practice roles supporting progression from graduate all the way to consultant radiographer or lead radiographer.

Job description
Job responsibilities
1. Undertake radiotherapy treatment and planning, on a rotational basis, using ionising radiation to treat patients with cancer or benign disease, with both curative and palliative intent.
2. Carry out radiotherapy procedures using a variety of specialised high energy radiation equipment, operation in conjunction with radiotherapy IT systems and various imaging systems.
3. Liaise with medical, physics, nursing, clerical and support staff within the department, and throughout the institution, to ensure optimum patient care.
