The Opportunity At Sizewell B Power Station, we’re working on securing safe, sustainable, low carbon energy for the UK until at least 2055 with the continued safe generation of our station. Our Single Integrated Delivery Organisation (SIDO) is utilising innovation in ideas and solutions to guarantee the best value outcomes for programme investments, operations and wider industry and society. Working from either Sizewell B Power Station or our central office in Gloucester, we have two vacancies available – a Technical Lead in Equipment Qualification and a Technical Lead in Ageing and Obsolescence. As a Technical Lead, you will build a multi-disciplinary team, combining technical and project management to deliver our portfolio of investment delivery projects. These are technical leadership roles, with opportunities to apply your technical, collaboration and management capabilities to resolve complex, multi-faceted technical topics. You’ll work with a variety of stakeholders ranging from engineering to supply chain and contract partners to senior leaders. You’ll be identifying synergies, resolving conflicts and developing risk mitigation strategies, in our Joint Technical Centre across Gloucester and Sizewell B. What you’ll be doing You’ll be responsible for setting the technical strategy and providing the technical leadership in execution of projects within your portfolio. You’ll be utilising your strategic thinking to deliver with a solution-oriented mindset. You will work closely with the Technical Programme Manager to successfully achieve project goals, so will need proven technical capability, project delivery experience and strong teamwork skills. You will need to drive the resolution of technical challenges and connect with people. It’ll be your responsibility to make optimal and informed decisions based on the balance of risk and develop suitable mitigations accordingly, in line with business and company objectives. Having the ability to resolve conflict and engage in difficult conversations to resolve issues will be essential in this role. Who you are We’re looking for you to have:A strong technical background with experience in delivering work in the programme technical areaProven ability to ensure that all technical solutions meet regulatory and company compliance requirements, alongside experience of Health and Safety legislation including CDMAbility to define and document safety requirements and ensure system designs meet these requirementsVisionary mindset with the ability to foresee long-term technical challenges and opportunitiesEffective communicator, able to foster trusting relationships, gain respect, influence decisions and successfully challenge at all levelsExperience of operating as part of an integrated team and leading a technical function, delivering Technical/Engineering solutions, preferably in the nuclear industryEducation to degree level in Engineering or equivalent scientific qualification, as well as holding membership or being a Chartered Engineer with i.e. IMechEAbility to collaborate with the procurement team to select and manage suppliers, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness would be a bonusA keen interest in the financial and budgetary aspects of project delivery would also be desirable. To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
