The role
As a Nuclear Repair Welder you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You'll be joining a pro-active and engaging team of highly motivated and skilled professionals working on complex and cutting-edge equipment and systems. Day-to-day, you’ll carry out welding activities (MMA and TIG welding where appropriate) in support of operational tasks and utilise your skills and experience in welding and fabrication to provide key services in the repair and inspection of various systems and equipment on all Royal Navy vessels alongside at HMNB Clyde.
You must be comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces. This position also involves manual work. This could include lifting, bending, using tools or standing for extended periods of time.
This role is full time. Hours of work will be Monday to Thursday - 8.05am to 4.45pm and Friday 8.05am to 12.05pm based full time, onsite at HMNB Clyde.
Essential experience of the Nuclear Repair Welder
1. You will be able to demonstrate previous welding experience, including significant experience of pipe welding.
2. Experience of MMA process and proficient at TIG welding on small-bore pipework encompassing Carbon Steels, Stainless Steels and Copper Nickels.
3. Previous experience of working with maintenance technical instructions, welding procedures and acceptance standards.
4. Experience of FCAW and mechanised welding would be advantageous.
5. Ability to demonstrate attention to detail and a focus on producing high-quality work to meet acceptance standards.
6. Experience of maintenance procedures, risk assessments, method statements, COSHH assessments and Safe Systems of Work with excellent team working skills.
Qualifications for the Nuclear Repair Welder
7. You will hold a recognised Fabrication/Welding Apprenticeship to N/SVQ Level 3 or HNC and above in a fabrication/welding discipline with industry experience.
