The Fellows of New College are seeking to elect a new Warden to succeed Mr Miles Young on the completion of his second term of office at the end of the 2025-26 academic year. Applications are invited from individuals with a strong record of achievement in their chosen field and the ability to offer inspiring leadership to a non-hierarchical community of scholars.
New College is one of the older and larger of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford. It was founded in 1379 and located in beautiful buildings occupying a large central site in Oxford. The College is an independent, self-governing charity which is both an academic institution and a social and residential centre for its members, dedicated to the advancement of education, learning and research. The College is home to 59 Fellows, 430 undergraduates and 400 graduate students. New College is a friendly, welcoming community, in which fellows, students and staff are united by their desire to support the College’s scholarly mission.
The Warden is the head of the College, and is charged by the Statutes with ultimate responsibility for the effective operation of the College as a place of education and scholarship, for its discipline, and for the safety and well-being of all its members. Candidates should demonstrate an interest in the academic and intellectual life of the College, displaying exceptional communication skills and the ability to shape strategy and direction through influence and persuasion rather than power of position.
