We require an Electrical Performance and Test Engineer to join our client based in Orkney on a permanent basis.
The Electrical Performance and Test Engineer role will be responsible for ensuring that the company’s electrical systems meet client’s requirements, that they are operated to relevant standards and to deliver power performance assessment of customers technologies.
THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
Essential:
1. Degree or equivalent qualification in a technical and/or electrical / electronic or a subject related to testing and measurement.
2. 5 years post-graduate experience in renewables, electricity supply, process, offshore oil and gas or similar industry. Some time working with instrumentation and measurement.
3. Experience with HV electrical systems.
4. Team worker; self-motivated; level of fitness associated with outdoor working and/or the marine environment.
5. Demonstrable willingness to learn in the course of the job. Willingness to assist with the career development of other members of the company operations team. Positive bias towards renewable forms of energy. High sense of responsibility and integrity.
Desirable:
1. Specific recognised qualification (academic or vocational) in instrumentation and testing.
2. Experience of formal Quality Assurance schemes.
3. Specific knowledge of instrumentation and measuring systems.
4. Knowledge of QA systems e.g. ISO 9000 series.
5. Personal aptitude for outdoor life and liking for marine activity.
JOB DESCRIPTION
1. Manage operation of company electrical systems, working closely with the Electrical Engineer and Contractors, to ensure activities are carried out in a safe and efficient manner.
2. Provide a testing service for wave and tidal generating devices owned by company clients, participating independently in technology design reviews and managing clients’ connections to the company electrical system.
3. Ensure availability of all company facilities and equipment associated with testing, which includes HV electrical connections and a range of electrical measurement systems.
4. Work with clients to solve operational problems of an electrical, technical or data-related nature.
5. Provide performance related data and reports to clients to assist with design and operation of devices and ensure that data and results are collated, processed and archived in a consistent and readily accessible manner.
6. Ensure that the company Integrated Management System is adhered to and assist the Quality Manager and others with identifying and progressing improvement actions, supporting company’s accreditation by the UK Accreditation Service (UKAS) or other relevant body.
7. Maintain awareness of requirements placed on the company through industry standards and other requirements/legislation.
8. Implement equipment and systems maintenance plans within agreed budgets.
9. Ensure that change and configuration management of all company HV electrical assets is carried out correctly.
10. Support staff with technical tasks carried out in relation to company electrical system measurements, data collection and records.
11. Project Management of company and client development works.
12. Instruct and supervise subcontractors.
13. Periods of lone working without close supervision.
14. Flexibility to do short duration overseas travel.
