The Product Design Engineer will perform design of product and process activities in support of new product development and product line sustainment for medium and high voltage switchgear products. The team you will be a part of is currently working on adoption of model-based definition and model-based enterprise strategies focused on proficient reuse of collateral within modeling, simulation, and analysis activities and into operations engineering handoffs.
Responsibilities:
* Primary focus is MV/HV Switchgear or similar components.
* Design for manufacturing is focused primarily on metal castings, stampings, and other fabricated parts but may also include plastic and rubber injection, fiberglass pultrusion, electrical components, wiring harnesses, and other common material processes.
* Creating, updating, and reviewing design content requirements including but not limited to 3D models and associated 2D drawings, technical specifications, reliability calculations, multiphysics simulations, tolerance stack up, DFMEA, DFMA, and Design Validation Plans and Reports (DVP&R).
* Implementing and reviewing Model Based Definition including GD&T and PMI on 3D CAD.
* Initiating and managing engineering changes and their required peer review for associated design content.
* Identifying Design to Value initiatives for parts, assemblies, and processes.
* Reviewing of customer specifications and requirements to evaluate design requirements.
* Performing or overseeing mechanical, environmental, and electrical simulation.
* Providing technical assistance to Applications, Process, and Quality Engineering.
* Assisting in product training activities that may involve internal staffing or customer training events.
* Travel requirements involving off-site testing of products, marketing support, field review of product applications or training activities.
What will help you thrive in this role?
* Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials Engineering or equivalent STEM discipline.
* Master of Science in mechanical or electrical engineering.
* Solidworks and/or Autodesk Inventor Experience.
* Simulation software experience – Ansys, Comsol, Simulia or other.
* 5 years of 3D CAD experience.
* 5 years of experience in design in a manufacturing environment.
* Ability to travel on business related trips (limited travel needs).
* Ability to walk around the manufacturing shop floor and lift 50 pounds as needed (part inspection, part fit check, product testing, etc.).
