The work of the SSLA Radiation Protection team is to develop Radiation Protection and Radioactive Waste Policy and provide Radiation Protection and Radioactive Waste advice, governance and assurance. This ensures that RRSL is compliant with extant legislation for operating two nuclear Licensed Sites at Raynesway Derby as well as external areas across Rolls Royce Submarines Ltd.

What you will be doing
You will support the Safety Security and Licencing Authority (SSLA) Radiation Protection (RP) Function for Rolls-Royce Submarines Ltd. Act as Dosimetry subject matter expert and Health Physicist to appropriate parts of the business which includes two nuclear licensed sites.
As a Dosimetry Team leader, you will be working for the SSLA Head of Approved Dosimetry Service for operational facilities, and your role will encompass the following:
1. You will be managing the day-to-day dosimetry operations for both internal and external dosimetry, ensuring IRR17 compliance.
2. You will be providing day to day SME dosimetry advice, guidance, and assurance to RRSL communicating to the business as required.
3. You will be delivering dosimetry training to the workforce and supporting operational Health Physics in the delivery of local Radiation Protection training.
4. You will provide the operational Health Physics team with Radiation Protection support.
5. You will represent RRSL at dosimetry working group meetings.
6. You will ensure local dosimetry technical and work instructions are maintained and updated as required.
7. You will support the Head of Approved Dosimetry Service and with setting of the dosimetry standards and arrangements.
8. You will be assisting the Head of Radiation Protection and the wider Safety Security and License Authority Radiation and environmental Protection team in developing policy and standards for Radiation Protection for RRSL.
9. You will coordinate and prioritise of the junior dosimetry professionals
10. You will be supporting the Emergency Arrangements for the two licensed sites on a roster basis out of hours. (An on-call allowance payable for this)

11. Experience working within Dosimetry and or operational health physics is essential.
12. Working knowledge of internal dosimetry is desirable
13. Science-based degree or demonstrable equivalent experience.
14. Ability to use bespoke software applications is essential for the role.
15. Good Interpersonal and effective communication skills (both verbal and written) with management, workforce and external agencies is essential
16. The ability to follow documented procedures and processes, ability to plan own work within job requirements

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place. Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets, you must hold a UK nationality.
