Job summary
This is a new exciting role, working for the East Kennet PCN based at Old School Surgery in Bedwyn. It is a rural surgery serving the population of Great Bedwyn and surrounding areas, with a patient list size of nearly 4000. It is a small but very busy rural practice.
Main duties of the job
This is a relatively new role to the NHS and combines administrative duties and hands on clinical work. The role will support the GPs in the smooth running of clinics by performing the more routine administration and clinical tasks on behalf of the GP, such as taking blood tests and blood pressures and administratively, tasks such as letter processing, receptionist duties, handing medicines to role will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, following policy and procedure, and under the guidance of the GP.
About us
This role will join a team of GPs and nurses and administrative staff. As the surgery team is relatively small, everyone helps out with a wide range of tasks. This role will work in both the clinical and adminsitrative teams.

Review clinical postal correspondence, undertaking or prioritisingactions required by GP or other team members.
Signposting some post to other members of the wider team, egclinical pharmacist
Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow upappointments for patients
Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements ofsome forms for the GP to approve and sign, such as insurance forms, mortgage,benefits agency forms etc.
Ensure patients are prepared for GP appointments, with therelevant history and basic readings being available
Explaining treatment procedures to patients
Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies getting anon call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP cancontinue with their consultation(s)

Able to obtain and document informedconsent (either verbal or written)
Ensure accurate notes of allconsultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes on theclinical computer system as appropriate
To maintain accurate patient recordsand enter onto the computer using agreed Read Codes
Ensure accurate completion of allnecessary documentation associated with patient health care and registrationwith the Practice
Dealing with telephone enquiriesappropriately and according to Practice policy
Able to perform Cardio-pulmonaryresuscitation according to current UK guidelines
Maintain effective liaison with otheragencies and staff concerned with patient care and with all other disciplineswithin the Practice, with appropriate regard to confidentiality

Qualifications
Essential
1. GCSE/NVQ level 2 or equivalent; or detailed patient services knowledge

2. Must have customer/patient care skills and have worked in a customer/patient facing environment.
3. Secretarial experience is essential.
4. Competence in Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel).
5. Ability to compile and analyse statistical information
Desirable
6. Experience of working with clinical systems SystmOne would be desirable.
7. Experience of working in a public sector/healthcare environment would be extremely advantageous.
