This role covers commercial and technical project controls, risk management and project leadership.To project manage several projects, from inception through to handover to business, ensuring the delivery of specified products and services within agreed time, quality, and cost parameters.To work alongside the Principal Engineer to give project direction, support, co-ordination and risk management with limitedsupervision or guidance. Managing a network of technical specialists to realise the project requirements.The role includes occasional supervision of apprentice personnel What are my responsibilities?
1. Project management: To provide project management, co-ordination, and guidance to the project team for all project activities. To ensure that the project team objectives are aligned to meeting all product and project requirements. To co ordinate the project activities of personnel through delegation of tasks. Authority to make project management decisions without supervision or approval.
2. Process: To ensure that project management processes, best practices and tools are adhered to at a level that is appropriate to the complexity of the project and are consistent across the product development department. Identify process errors and process improvement opportunities including correction and implementation.
3. Risk: To identify, score, monitor, manage and action mitigations for technical and commercial project risks and opportunities to ensure project requirements are met and maintained.
4. Delegate: To delegate responsibilities but maintain responsibility as required to achieve project requirements.
5. Support leaders: Provide reporting and support on project related activities to the Programme Manager and Team Leaders.
6. Supervisory: Occasional supervisory responsibilities for Apprentice’s. Mentor and assist in demonstrating project management and product development processes to apprentices within the department.
7. Project controls: To monitor, control and report financial and schedule performance of all projects under your responsibility. To identify underperformance in projects under your control and communicate the issues.
8. Continuous improvement: To identify and drive process and continual improvement initiatives that improve product development’s ability to deliver projects to requirements.
9. Finance: To support the Programme Manager with project finance plans and reporting as required (usually monthly and during annual planning reviews).
10. Ensure success: Ensure project success and satisfaction of the customer (internal and external) through professional stakeholder management. This includes ensuring the product requirement specification is met by the project.
11. Schedule creation and bid support: To review internal and external customer project requirements, identify project tasks and risks, generate a schedule, resource plan and cost for the project with support of the Principal Engineer. The schedule and cost may be used in bid proposals in which case you will support in any subsequent client meetings.
12. Scope control: You will control the scope of projects under your responsibly. As changes in scope are requested or occur you will identify these and create variation orders for approval. This is applicable to both internal and external customer projects.
13. Health and safety: Ensure projects you are responsible for adhere to all relevant safety processes and guidance.
14. Proactively identify opportunities for improvement regarding safety.
15. Client relationships: To represent the company on active projects as the point of contact for clients. This includes day to day contact and in technical/project meetings.
16. Audits: To take part in internal and external audits of our project management processes including actioning any audit findings
17. Takes part in business improvement activities, as assigned.
18. Contribute to the deployment of strategic tasks and projects, as assigned.
19. Adhere to relevant processes.
20. Identify process errors and process improvement opportunities to management.
21. Identify potential quality issues or improvements to management.
22. Always adhere to safety processes and guidance. Proactively identify opportunities for improvement regarding safety.
23. Authorised to make project management decisions at a project level. ( decisions that could only affect project specific requirements) without supervision
What I need to be successful in this role
24. Excellent project management experience with ideally a degree or high-level qualification in project management.
25. An understanding of workplace planning and experience of engineering development project execution.
26. Outline knowledge, understanding and workplace experience of customer operations and requirements.
27. General industry awareness.
28. Good understanding of manufacturing operations and techniques.
29. An understanding of commercial and contract management.
Essential
30. Strong knowledge and experience of risk management covering all aspect of the project life cycle.
31. Strong leadership, delegation, and organisational skills.
32. Strong knowledge of project management methodology, processes, tools, and procedures.
33. Experience of managing projects in an engineering environment
34. Design and deliver effective informal and formal presentations to individuals and groups.
