An exciting new opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and positive person to join our Surgical nursing team as a Band 4 Arthroplasty Assistant Practitioner. The post holder will undertake a one-year HNC in Healthcare Practice with the University of the Highlands and Islands, commencing in January 2025.
Entry Requirements
* A minimum of 1 year in post as a Health Care Support Worker
* Commitment to fulfil the programme requirements and remain within employment for a minimum of one year within NHS Western Isles
* Undertake the academic and practice elements of the programme
* Line manager support
Programme Details
* This fully funded HNC includes 12 units at level 7 aimed at preparing students for work across all nursing settings.
* The programme will be taught and assessed by way of a blended delivery model, with a significant placement element based in the students work place.
* Student will be released for 1 day per week, this will involve time in college and time (super numeri) in the workplace
* 1 additional study day per month will be allocated
Surgical ward has 18 staffed beds consisting of elective and trauma orthopaedics, general surgical, gynaecology and urology; 4 of these are designated arthroplasty beds. Elective orthopaedic lists are performed on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and on average 5 arthroplasty patients are operated on weekly.
The post holder will work closely with the Arthroplasty Practitioner, Orthopaedic surgeons, pre assessment nurses, ward nursing team, physiotherapists and occupational therapists plus other health professional teams as required. Emphasis will be made on introducing prehab therefore working and liaising with community teams and GP’s will be essential. The expectation is that the successful candidate will be involved in the patient journey from initial referral to discharge and beyond if required.
The post holder may also be required to gather and input data for the ARISE project.
Applicants should be committed to providing a high standard of care and interact well within a multi-disciplinary team. Applicants should have good communication skills, be IT literate and comfortable with managing their own workload. Working patterns will vary depending on needs of the service and may involve some weekend/ evening work to support rehabilitation.
Shift patterns will be dictated by the needs of the service and are fully negotiable, full UK driving licence is required for this post
The successful applicant will be required to register with the PVG Scheme (Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme). This post is not eligible for relocation expenses.
