Job Duties
Norfolk State University’s (NSU) Department of Facilities Management provides a campus environment that is conducive to learning by ensuring a clean and safe environment within college facilities for students, faculty and staff. The department seeks enthusiastic, motivated individual interested in serving as Housekeeping Supervisor.
To serve as the on-site supervisor for the Custodial Services Department directing the work activities of the custodial staff. Duties will include:
1. Working with staff to complete daily duties (working supervisor), training staff, completing employee payroll, leave request, supply and equipment inventory and performing general housekeeping functions.
2. This position may be assigned to any locations within the college.
3. Position may be assigned to work and/or supervise special events outside of normal daily schedule.
4. Serves on the college wide emergency response and events team.
The University has two shifts for its housekeeping staff:
Day Shift -
Monday-Friday-7:00AM -4:00PM
Rotating Sat & Sun – 8:00am – 2:00PM
*Does not include event coverage
Evening Shift -
Monday-Friday-3:00AM -11:30PM
Rotating weekend shift Sat & Sun – 8:00am – 2:00PM

Minimum Qualifications
1. Working knowledge of cleaning methods, use of cleaning supplies and equipment, proper safety techniques related to housekeeping operations and general computer operations.
2. Considerable skills in the use of buffers burnishers, wet and dry vacuums and other housekeeping equipment.
3. Possess skills in stripping, waxing, buffing floors and carpet cleaning (dry and wet methods).
4. Knowledge of and ability to apply proper safety techniques to be used in day-to-day housekeeping operations.
5. Demonstrate the ability to function independently, to give and receive both written and oral instructions, and to direct the work of others.
6. Ability to lift and move heavy objects, stand for extended periods of time, and to tolerate contact with a variety of cleaning products and solutions.
7. High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of training and education that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Training and/or related experience in housekeeping may be substituted for educational requirements.
2. Hands on experience in day to day cleaning or institution type setting.
3. General computer knowledge required.
4. Some supervisory experience required.
5. Must possess a valid driver’s license (must enter driver’s license number and information under the “License” heading on the state application.)
