Main duties of the job
As a GP in our practice, you will be responsible for providing primary medical services to the registered patients of the practice, ensuring the highest standards of care for all, undertaken in line with the relevant national primary care contractual regulations and guidelines. Provide care for both on-the day care for patients and pre-booked patients with long term conditions and be responsible for maintaining the smooth running of the practice.

We have approximately 18,300 patients. We provide a wide range of services, including well-woman clinics, contraception, maternity and midwifery, asthma / COPD and diabetes clinics, hypertension clinics, childhood immunisations, and minor surgery. We have a multidisciplinary team that includes GPs, Paramedic Practitioners, Physiotherapists, a Pharmacy Team,and Advanced Practitioners.

Job responsibilities
ll normal duties and responsibilities associated with a Salaried GP working within primary care as set by the regulatory and standard setting organisations, including but not limited to the points below. In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, will undertake a variety of duties including:
1. Surgery consultations and emergencies, telephone consultations and queries, triaging, visiting patients at home, checking and authorising repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, patient test results, patient medical reports and examinations on behalf of the Practice as well as referral letters and other paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner.
2. Provide health promotion and advice, signposting patients to appropriate services to maximise their health and social functioning and their ability to self-manage their care.
3. Be constantly mindful of the need for the provision of personalised care and population health, including reducing health inequalities and ensure that these are reflected in daily practice.
4. Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting patients, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation or external organisations.
5. Assess the health needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems taking appropriate action as necessary.
6. Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness taking appropriate action as necessary.
7. Consult with patients and in line with current disease management protocols and care pathways, develop care plans for health related illnesses and share these in line with patient need and good information governance.
8. Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards using IT systems.
9. Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible) including EPS.
10. Prescribe in accordance with locally agreed or nationally agreed prescribing formulary.
11. Work in accordance with all relevant clinical guidelines, pathways and protocols.
12. Responsible for tasks delegated to them, appropriate to their level of competence and expected to delegate tasks or responsibilities to other staff, as appropriate.
13. In-hours duty doctor sessions; to be agreed.
14. All General Practitioners are expected to participate in continuing professional development, annual GP appraisal, Revalidation and appropriate peer supervision and to remain up to date on professional developments as required by their professional body. GPs are actively encouraged to take their study leave entitlement in order to support the development needs identified in their PDP and appraisal. Undertake all requirements to remain on the Medical Performers List.
15. Ensure that they remain up to date with and implements all relevant good clinical practice guidance ( NICE guidance).
16. Work in accordance with all relevant clinical pathways and protocols.
17. Active engagement with professional development lead, to promote patient safety and quality of service.
18. Participation in a range of clinical governance activities, including clinical audit and such quality improvement activities deemed necessary by external accrediting bodies.
19. Ensure that the requirements of the Care Quality Commission are reflected in his/her day to day practice and will maintain and develop the practices active management of CQC requirements.
