Avonside Girls’ High School/Te Kura Kōhine o Ōtakaro is seeking an experienced and passionate leader to be head of a well-established, supportive, innovative and dedicated English department from 2025.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate successful leadership in curriculum design, high expectations teaching individually and from staff, and improved student achievement both at NCEA and co-requisites. A commitment to the strategic vision of the kura is essential as is evidence of commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity of achievement.
Avonside is a kura with a rich 96-year history, and, post-earthquake, is now in a unique situation in being collocated with Shirley Boys in East Christchurch which provides opportunities. We have high academic expectations of our students, and a school culture focused on key mauri/values, empowerment of wahine, staff and student involvement in extra-curricular activities and strong student leadership and voice.
