The opportunity:
A vacancy has arisen within Leonardo UK for a Project Engineering Manager on the Future Combat Air System Programme (FCAS) to manage and deliver a series of advanced technology demonstrations. This opportunity will see the successful candidate managing multi-discipline teams to develop and integrate complex mission systems, and deliver test and evaluation of these capabilities within a synthetic environment and on airborne trials.
What you'll do as Project Engineering Manager - Domain Development:
In this role, you will cover:
1. Day-to-day management of multi-disciplined Engineering teams, ensuring that roles and tasks are clearly defined, understood and delivered.
2. Management of the Engineering technical quality, schedule and budget.
3. Understand and interpret user needs / requirements in order to influence and define the system requirements, architecture, and design, liaising with sensor and communication technical specialist teams.
4. Establish and maintain good lines of communication across the Engineering IPT and upwards to the IPT lead.
5. Liaise with the IPT lead to deliver against the FCAS master schedule.
6. Management of cost adherence to the programme budgets. Work Package cost management for project control and reporting.
7. Liaise closely with System Design Authority to ensure technical integrity of programmes.
8. Technical point of contact and liaison point for customer and/or partner organisations.
9. Technical interface and management of programme's contractors & sub-contractors.
10. Setting of goals, appraisal of core staff and agreeing project specific training needs.
11. Configure and maintain performance measures and metrics for the area.
12. Support Business Development in their roles of securing new business and setting strategy for the business.
13. Identify performance improvements / key enablers and propose candidate solutions and implementation methods.
14. Travel within the UK, and potentially worldwide, to meet with our customers and industry partners.
What we need from you:
You really must have:
1. Degree qualified in a relevant Science / Technology / Engineering / Maths discipline or similar experience.
2. Experience of engineering team management in a challenging environment.
3. Good problem solving ability.
4. Good schedule and budget control.
5. Good written and verbal communication skills.
6. Commercial awareness.
7. Ability to develop close relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to understand, interpret, and influence current and future user needs and requirements.
8. Strong leadership competency but also can demonstrate team-working skills.
9. Enthusiasm to take on new challenges.
10. A passion for knowledge sharing and developing others.
It would be nice if you had:
1. Proven technical expertise and management on defence programmes and full knowledge and experience of other related disciplines.
2. Understanding of financial management and impacts on programmes.
3. Experience in a "customer facing" role.
4. Experience of interaction with senior external personnel on significant engineering matters often requiring coordination between organisations.
