Job Description
Role: Automation electrical PLC support engineer
Location: Gloucester
Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 + and profit related pay and pension contribution
Occasional homeworking /hybrid working up to 25% of working time
Special requirements:
A full driving licence is required, and applicants must be eligible to obtain business visas for USA/Canada, China and India as some foreign travel may be necessary.
As a member of the applications and technical support team, you will be a multi-disciplined engineer familiar with all aspects of Mechatronic Engineering and Industrial Automation.
Working with customers and our development team to apply products that are centred around specialised programmable motion controllers / PLCs used in a broad range of industrial machines to provide motion and automation functionality.
In addition, you will be helping to give customers advice on our range of brushless servo drives and motors, HMIs and PC based software.
This post concerns supporting both the home UK market and most industrialised countries throughout the world.
The technical support team handles requests from this large customer base through four sales offices and a network of appointed distributors.
Specific Job Responsibilities
* Running the online/email support response for a specified region
* Taking lead product expert role on several automation products
* Working with sales engineers to create technical solutions for customers
* Managing projects that overlap between sales/applications/development
Travel Requirements
* Some international travel to support Distributors. (4 to 6 weeks per year)
* Travel to servo-drive technology centre in Milan from time to time.
Key Skills required:
* Degree in Software/Mechatronics/Electronics or a strongly related discipline.
* Worked on interfacing automation hardware with electrical systems.
* Experienced in applying programmable systems to Servo Drives/Motors and general manufacturing machines.
* High level programming languages; for example C, BASIC, Python.
* PLC programming, preferably using the standard IEC61131-3 environment.
* Electrical interfacing between a controller and sensors/actuators in an automation system.
* Servo drives and brushless servo motors.
* Stepper motors and drives.
* Ethernet networks, TCP/IP and topology.
* Working knowledge of PCs running Windows.
* Basic level of Windows / Linux application programming.
* Real-time deterministic networks, e.g. EtherCAT, Sercos, CanOpen, Profinet RT.
* Application and configuration of Industrial Robots.
* Programming and configuration of touch-screen HMIs
