Person specification:
1. A strong desire to work with young people in a support role
2. Effective communication and interpersonal skills with adults and young people
3. Able to work under pressure and use own initiative
4. Competent in using ICT
5. Active interest in young people, education and positive outcomes for young people
6. Good literacy and numeracy. Maths and English Grade 5 or equivalent
7. Committed to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of young people in line with the academy safeguarding policies and procedures
Job description:
1. Be first point of contact for parent/carer communication
2. To be aware of the vulnerable students within the year group and act as a champion for them
3. Deal with emerging issues that may arise to ensure students are emotionally supported and prepared for learning in a safe environment.
4. Log all incidents and interventions for each student using the academy recording systems
5. Meet with Head of Year on a daily basis
6. Speak to parents and arrange meetings where necessary
7. To be responsible for supporting an academy year group.
8. To deliver efficient and professional information, advice and support to meet the needs of students on a range of personal, pastoral and academic issues
9. Mentor students in a year group who struggle with attendance
10. Support in managing the behaviour of the student year group, monitoring their behaviour, leading restorative conversations and implementing other rewards/sanctions as appropriate
11. Be part of the on call, detention and refocus area rota
12. Daily uniform/equipment checks for a year group
13. Prepare behaviour contracts for students whose behaviour is being monitored
14. Attend reintegration meetings following suspensions.
15. Attend safeguarding meetings with outside agencies for students in a year group in liaison with the Deputy Safeguarding and Mental Health Lead
16. To support students with social and emotional difficulties, making referrals to internal and external agencies as necessary via the Deputy Safeguarding and Mental Health Lead
