We have an opportunity for someone to join our Communities & Environment finance business partnering team. The role will mainly support the Housing, Transportation & Public Protection service area, and includes working with the service on budget setting and monitoring, providing support to budget holders, submission of grant and statistical returns, preparation of closedown and assisting in the production of the Statement of Accounts.
The role provides the opportunity to gain experience in a wide variety of tasks with duties including:
1. Deputising on occasions for the Principal Accountant.
2. Ensure adequate quality control procedures in all aspects of accountancy and budgeting work.
3. Carry out a full range of accountancy work associated with a particular service area.
4. Involvement in the development and maintenance of the council’s financial systems.
5. Participate in all aspects of the operation of the financial ledger including the preparation of final accounts of relevant services.
6. Analyse budget monitoring statements to deadlines and undertake necessary investigations into latest expenditure trends.
7. Prepare grant claims and statistical returns in accordance with requirements by due deadlines.
8. Prepare management information in a timely manner, including research and analysis into specific aspects of the finances of service directorates, or national developments for submission to Senior Officers within directorates.
9. Analyse and interpret statistical returns, including the comparison of individual services or the Council as a whole, with other authorities.
10. Co-ordinate aspects of the closure of accounts or budgeting process for a particular service area.
11. Assist in the production of the Statement of Accounts.
