The Virginia State Police is recruiting qualified applicants who want to promote highway safety, serve and protect their community, increase community involvement and partnership, and keep Virginia safe by enforcing the laws of the Commonwealth. We are actively seeking professional individuals with a desire to represent and serve the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The Virginia State Police is currently offering a $5,000 signing bonus for those applicants who are successfully rehired and pass their probationary period. The $5,000 recruitment bonus will be paid out after the successful completion of the probationary period and is subject to taxes.
Minimum Qualifications

The minimum qualifications for a Virginia State Police Trooper are:
• must be at least 21 years of age on date of graduation;
• must be a high school graduate or have a GED;
• must be a United States citizen on day of testing;
• must be in possession of a valid driver’s license;
• must successfully pass all Phase One pre-employment testing to include a Work Performance Test (WPT) (if applicable);
• must successfully complete a polygraph examination and pass a background investigation to complete Phase Two (if applicable);
• must be willing to travel at your own expense to the Virginia State Police Headquarters located at 7700 Midlothian Turnpike, North Chesterfield, VA 23235 to complete Phase Three of the pre-employment process (medical and psychological evaluation), and while in a probationary status;
• weight must be in proportion to height on date of hire;
• must be willing to relocate anywhere in the state based on Department needs;
• must be willing to work rotating shifts, holidays and weekends;
• must be in compliance with the Department’s tattoo and body modification policies; and
• must attach a letter to the Superintendent requesting to be rehired and indicating three locations of choice to include Division, Area, and Duty Post.

Special Instructions:
WHERE APPLICABLE, A POLYGRAPH EXAMINATION, BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, MEDICAL & PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAMINATIONS, AND RANDOM DRUG SCREENING SHALL BE REQUIRED.
Elements of the selection process include the screening of application(s); a polygraph examination; a background investigation; a psychological examination; and a medical evaluation if applicable. The anticipated duration of the pre-employment process is determined by the successful completion of the above items.
