Driver / Attendant – Casual - Chorley
Helping the most vulnerable people in our community get to where they need to be each day is what this role is about. Whether they are children with special educational needs or disabilities going to school or older people getting to see their friends at a day centre, that is what we do in the Travelcare service. If you are caring and reliable this could be the role for you.
The core duties are:-
1. Driving minibuses of up to 16 seats.
2. Transporting passengers in a safe and caring manner
3. Providing care to passengers.
4. Ensuring passengers reach their destination / activity safely
5. Working as a team with the Passenger Assistant (where one is provided)
6. Operating the vehicle passenger lift to enable passengers to board and alight from the vehicle
7. Ensuring the safe application of seatbelts, wheelchair clamps and straps and other specialist equipment
8. Carrying out vehicle checks, fuelling and cleaning as required
9. Completion of records as required
As a Casual Driver Attendant you would provide cover for absence for other drivers and passenger assistants. Cover for passenger assistants may be on our own vehicles or in private hire vehicles. This gives a great variety of work and requires a good level of flexibility.
The base location is our Chorley site but you may be rostered to provide cover at our Rufford or Skelmersdale sites from time to time.
As a casual driver you will receive initial training which is paid and then will be paid for the hours that you actually work; which is on an as and when needed basis.
It gives a great opportunity to understand the role and builds experience should you wish to apply for a permanent contracted role in future.
Normal working hours are on split shifts generally between the hours of 07:15 – 10:45 and 14:30 – 18:00 however this may vary depending on routes allocated.
You will need group D1 on your driving licence and be able to pass a professional drivers medical. You should have no more than 3 points on your driving licence.
