Trainee level through to Senior Quantity Surveyor - Up to £70K dependant on experience - Huntingdon
We are actively looking to recruit Quantity Surveyors with UK Civil / Groundwork project experience to join a thriving Civils Contractor, with offices and projects around Huntingdon.
Main purpose of role
1. Management of all costs relating to projects from initial inquiry and estimate through to when the build is in progress to final costs.
2. Ensure that costs/ risks are minimised and enhance value for money, whilst ensuring that the Company is achieving required standards and quality. Manage any variations to the contract.
3. Understand and adhere to statutory building regulations.
4. Assist the Company to realise its Mission Statement and values particularly in relation to safety and welfare.
Key tasks
1. Understand the principles of safety on site/ company projects. Support the Safety Director and safety team in the application of safety policy and practice. Ensure that any concerns are addressed immediately with the support of the safety team and/ or Directors as appropriate.
2. Prepare and/ or review tenders with estimators assisting with understanding the client's requirements and offering value engineering.
3. Provide early cost advice to client on variations, ensuring only authorised variations are undertaken.
4. Understand construction issues, offer advice on drawings and works and ensure projects have all current drawings/ up to date information to work from.
5. Identify commercial risks and provide appropriate solution/ response.
6. Understand Company procurement and its impact on job cost/ performance.
7. Undertake costs analysis working with Company buyers. Advise on procurement/ cost control.
8. Value completed work, ensuring timely payments.
9. Understand importance of cash flow and timely payments, including retention payments.
10. Build strong relationships with client staff and Company production staff.
11. Allocate work to sub-contractors including assistance with procurement when required.
12. Have a good knowledge of various construction contracts.
13. Undertake personal on-going development.
14. Assist with the development of any assistants/ trainees.
15. Other duties as reasonably required from time to time.
Key results / objectives
1. Measure all site works accurately, for value recovery and to minimise costs.
2. Continual professional development of quantity surveying skills in residential groundworks.
3. Optimise use of IT, particularly excel and continue to develop knowledge and use of excel and company software relevant to role.
4. Accurately value sub-contract works, measure works for purposes of valuation and cross checking.
5. Recommend sub-contractor payments including calculation and build up to figures, oversee payments by less experienced members of staff.
6. Undertake site meetings and take appropriate notes.
7. Agree subcontract final accounts.
8. Recover any losses.
9. Maintain professional standards and relationships, enhance the company's reputation.
10. Ensure adequate levels of communication (internal and external).
11. Gradually gain more responsibility to carry out tasks with guidance and support.
