The broadcast engineer placement will join the team responsible for the operation, maintenance, and improvement to the technical facilities in the London Bureau and offsite. They will be involved in supporting the Broadcast Engineers in the ongoing operation, monitoring, maintenance and troubleshooting including implementing system upgrades and crafting novel solutions to provide ongoing efficiency and increase functionality.
What will you be doing?
This is an undergraduate placement position, where the successful applicant will undergo on the job training in the operations of the department. They will work closely with the team in order to support the operational requirements, develop new solutions to workflows and maintain equipment. Examples of the wide breath of work the department carries out:
1. Monitor and maintain broadcast facilities, and trouble shoot systems failure
2. Installation, operation and dismantling of ‘outside broadcast’ facilities
3. Improving technical facilities and workflows
4. Carry out basic repairs on equipment
5. Ingest of file based footage into Avid system using appropriate workflows
6. Playout of footage from Avid system, including baseband video and file-based exports
7. Switching of video and audio lines
8. Downlinking of video material via satellite, LiveU or other mediums
9. Recording of Zoom calls and other online conferencing solutions
10. Creation of comms links for IFB and 4-wire communication in the field
11. QA of video feeds.

15. Use of Microsoft Windows systems, including Microsoft office
16. Inquisitive & genuine, proven curiosity about broadcast technology
Desirable:
17. Knowledge of LiveU products
18. Use of Zoom and Skype
19. Knowledge of camera systems (Sony)
20. Avid systems (Interplay, Airspeed, Media Composer, Media Central)
21. Experience in a Broadcasting, or similar, environment.
22. IP Video systems (SMPTE 2110 etc)
