JOB ROLE: Technical Manager

Shepley Spring are the UK’s leading bottled water manufacturer with over 20 years’ experience in production and are proud to remain a family run business to this day.
The company operates in three manufacturing facilities in West Yorkshire and owns several high-speed production lines with the capabilities of producing both still and sparkling water, servicing leading retailers such as Morrisons, Lidl, Booker Tesco and Sainsbury through private labels, and produces the brands Ice Valley and White Rock exclusively.
SUMMARY:
The Technical Manager is responsible for overseeing the technical operations of the bottled water manufacturing process. This includes ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of the production line, maintaining product quality, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
The Technical Manager will lead a team of engineers and technicians to optimize production processes, troubleshoot technical issues, and implement innovative solutions to enhance productivity and product quality.
COMPETENCIES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Production Management
* Oversee the daily operations of the manufacturing environment to ensure efficient production.
* Develop and implement production schedules to meet business demands.
* Monitor production metrics and adjust processes as necessary to meet targets.
Quality Assurance
* Ensure that all products meet the company’s quality standards and regulatory requirements.
* Implement and maintain quality control systems and procedures.
* Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify areas for improvement.
Technical Leadership
* Lead a team of engineers and technicians, providing guidance and support.
* Facilitate training and development programs for technical staff.
* Promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
Process Optimization
* Analyse production processes to identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements.
* Implement lean manufacturing principles to reduce waste and increase efficiency.
* Collaborate with R&D and other departments to introduce new technologies and processes.
Maintenance & Equipment Management
* Oversee the maintenance of plant equipment and machinery.
* Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to minimise downtime.
* Manage relationships with equipment suppliers and service providers.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
* Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
* Develop and enforce safety protocols and procedures.
* Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
* Batchelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
* Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a technical management role within the food or beverage industry, preferably in bottled water manufacturing.
* Strong knowledge of production management, quality control, and process optimization.
* Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
* Excellent leadership and team management skills.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
* Proficient in using production management software and tools.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Experience in implementing and managing BSC quality management systems.
* Familiarity with automation and modern manufacturing technologies.
* Knowledge of supply chain management and logistics.
