The Directorate of Trauma and Orthopaedics has created the exciting new role of Resource Manager, in order to drive new ways of working, better manage our capacity, and ultimately provide our patients with the best possible experience.
Role Overview:
As the T&O Resource Manager, you will lead and optimise our resource management processes, including timetabling, scheduling, insourcing, and outsourcing. As part of the Directorate's senior team, you'll work closely with senior managers and external partners to ensure efficient operations and clear reporting. This role is crucial for balancing patient demand with available resources and enhancing Directorate performance.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead initiatives to streamline workflows and administrative processes.
2. Collaborate with various teams to develop and monitor key performance indicators.
3. Line manage the Deputy Administration Manager, with oversight of the Directorate's Admin team.
4. Work with the Consultants to coordinate timetables and support senior management in planning and decision-making.
5. Facilitate project-based meetings and manage associated documentation.
Main Duties of the Job
The T&O Resource Manager will drive resource management and process improvements within our Orthopaedic service. This role ensures efficient booking, scheduling, insourcing, and outsourcing operations across sites. You'll collaborate with senior leadership and external partners to optimise resources and enhance departmental performance.

1. Operational Expertise: Significant experience in HR management, budget oversight, and performance metrics within the NHS.
2. Leadership: Proven track record in managing large teams and achieving targets. Experience in administrative and booking processes is crucial.
3. Project Management: Strong skills to coordinate and facilitate projects, with experience supporting change programs and working with healthcare targets.
4. Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills for team leadership, stakeholder engagement, and report writing. Ability to motivate staff to meet challenging targets.
5. Analytical Abilities: Proficient in analysing data to inform decisions and optimise resources. Strong problem-solving skills to manage operational changes.

Job Responsibilities
1. To lead resource management process improvement and efficiencies, including booking and scheduling, insourcing and outsourcing, on behalf of the Directorate Senior Leadership Team.
2. To enhance and deliver effective processes and monitoring across all administrative, bookings and outsourcing areas of Trauma and Orthopaedics (T&O).
3. Work closely with the T&O Directorate Manager and Performance colleagues to set up the day-to-day planning and delivery, reporting and monitoring of all key targets and performance metrics.
4. To work with the Performance colleagues to develop forecasts for future resource, scheduling, insourcing and outsourcing needs based on demand and trends.
5. Develop performance indicators in collaboration with the Clinical Director, Performance colleagues, Directorate Manager and Deputy Administration Manager.
6. Lead initiatives to streamline workflows and administrative processes, incorporating lean management principles and innovative solutions.
7. Liaise with various teams including T&O administration, Outpatients Scheduling, Theatre Scheduling and performance teams.
8. Review departmental workload and capacity, employing data-driven approaches to balance patient demand with available resources.
9. To line manage the Deputy Administration Manager and support them with their key functions managing the T&O Admin team.
10. To support the Clinical Director, Consultants and Directorate Manager in optimising the consultant rota.
11. Work in partnership with appropriate management, clinical staff and others to ensure support and engagement for projects.
12. Regularly report to Directorate Manager on key targets, performance metrics, and project outcomes.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* First degree or equivalent operational experience.
* Evidence of other specialist management training to post graduate level or equivalent experience.
* Willingness to undertake any further management development training as deemed necessary.
* ILM or other management/leadership training.
Experience
* Experience of HR management, budgetary management, performance and information management and of planning and developing strategy.
* Experience of administrative and booking processes within an NHS Acute hospital setting.
* Experience of managing NHS waiting lists in accordance with National RTT rules.
* Experience of working with large multi-professional teams towards common objectives and targets.
* Proven track record of achieving targets.
* Experience of involvement within projects, work streams and complex programmes of change.
* Experience of working with healthcare targets and performance metrics.
* Experience of supporting programmes of change within an NHS setting.
* Previous NHS experience.
* Experience in Health/Social Care Sector.
