TheFramework embedded Design Manager willassist with the development of schemes to construction and providedesign assurance.
About thejob
The Framework Design Managerwill oversee all aspects of the project design phases from initialproject planning to contract procurement & delivery. Thisrole requires a technical substation engineering background withstrong leadership strategic thinking and the ability to collaborateeffectively with internal teams clients andstakeholders.
Responsibilities:
ProjectFeasibility: Manage a team to conduct feasibilitystudies and site assessments to evaluate project viability risksand opportunities. Identify potential challenges constraints andregulatory requirements that may impact project planning andexecution. Coordinate technical information from project designersand ensure decisions are appropriatelyrecorded.
DesignManagement: Own the design development process inconjunction with the PreConstruction Project Manager includingcollaborating with architects engineers and consultants to developcomprehensive design packages. Ensure that designs meet projectrequirements regulatory standards and client expectations withprogrammed hold points to review and agree as required. Carefulscrutiny is to be given to tracking design change evolution andimprovements to ensure design decisions are financially suitable.Act as the interface with the OCU Design Services business tomanage a pipeline of design work on behalf of the ED2 FrameworkManagement team and the OCU Design Servicesbusiness.
Cost Estimation andBudgeting: Lead on preparation of accurate costestimates budgets and financial projections for design works.Monitor and control project costs throughout the design phase inconjunction with the PreConstruction PM to ensure alignment withbudgetary constraints.
ProcurementStrategy:Develop procurement strategies forsubcontractors suppliers and vendors to provide Design professionalservices where required. Solicit bids negotiate contracts andmanage procurement processes to secure the necessary resources forproject execution and maintain compliance with procurementpolicy.
Design RiskManagement:Identify assess and mitigate projectrisks and uncertainties during the preconstruction phase and designphases. Develop risk management plans and strategies to minimisepotential impacts on project timelines budgets and quality. Lead onHAZID/HAZOP/HAZCON studies andassessments.
ClientEngagement:Collaborate with clients and stakeholdersto understand project objectives requirements and expectations.Provide regular updates and progress reports on preconstructionactivities and milestones. Foster positive relationships to enhanceclient satisfaction andtrust.
FrameworkManagement:Provide leadership guidance and supportto the ED2 SSEN Delivery framework management team on allengineering design matters. Whilst the role itself does not haveimmediate direct reports the wider team includes project managersengineers estimators and designers. Foster a culture of safety bydesign collaboration and continuous improvement &innovation.
Qualifications&Experience:
* Proven experience in Electrical Design Engineering andSubstation Design Project Management is a must with a focus on11132kV Substation Design Engineering with an Electrical Bias bytrade.
* Experience directly with SSEN for DNOsubstation overhead line and underground cable circuit designworks. Other relevant DNO experience will be beneficial.
* Strong leadership and strategic planning abilities.Ability to create manage and develop projects utilising projectprogrammes and change control process.
* Excellent communication negotiation and interpersonalskills with experience of managing professional servicesconsultants.
* Proficiency in Engineering& Project management software and tools (e.g. AutoCADMicrosoft Project Design Software relevant to trade CommercialManagement Software such as CEMAR / Sypro / Unifier).
* Knowledge of construction regulations codes and standardswith specific focus on SSEN Design Standards. Knowledge of NationalGrid TNO level system would also be beneficial.
* Membership in relevant professional organisations (e.g.Chartered Institute of Building Institute of Engineering andTechnology and the Institute of Civil Engineers) isadvantageous.
* Experience of managing andoverseeing a Designteam.
