Having an abundance of awards to their name, this growing contractor has a reputation for being a real market leader in their field. As the business forecasts a 20% increase in turnover, they require a Design Manager to complement their existing team.
The successful Design Manager will have full design responsibility for distinct projects - from concept design to creation of “as built” drawings. Depending on the scale of the project, they will be required to prepare architectural drawings or manage their creation via consultants.
The Design Manager will coordinate all external consultants required to obtain statutory consents and will collaborate with internal departments to value engineer and maximise efficiency.
Responsibilities:
1. Leading the design process on building projects from feasibility, including:
1. Preparing concept designs for tenders
2. Preparing planning applications, gaining approvals and discharging conditions
3. Preparing building warrant applications and gaining approvals
4. Preparing and submitting roads construction consents, Scottish water approvals and other statutory approvals.
5. Preparing and issuing construction information
6. Completing “as built” drawing packages
2. Collaborating with other members of the pre-construction team to ensure all projects adhere to the company's strategy and standard specification.
3. Collaborating with the site teams to maximise efficiency.
4. Providing the purchasing team with design information, reviewing and signing off orders for designed components.
5. Liaising with the commercial team to ensure alignment between designs and cost plans.
6. Planning project timescales and assessing project risks.
7. Attending relevant client meetings and site visits
8. Liaising with clients to provide design input and innovative solutions.
9. Diligent filing of design information and issuing of drawing registers.
10. Keeping up to date with the latest building standards and innovations in net zero design.
11. Establish excellent working relationship and partnerships based on an open two-way communication style with:
1. Internal: Development, project operations, purchasing, finance, commercial teams
2. External: Clients, appointed design team, utilities companies, statutory authorities.
Requirements:
1. Master of Architecture or equivalent qualification
2. Min. 5 years' experience of new build design
3. Open and communicative
4. Practical, flexible individual who will seek practical solutions
5. Team worker who can motivate and add value to others
6. Ability to translate project briefs into design
7. Strong design viability knowledge
8. Extensive experience of planning regulations and conditions
9. Experience of environmental regulations and design materials compliance
10. Multi discipline project management of design phases
11. Running of concurrent projects
12. Ability to review designs and drawings and have valid input on buildability
13. Demonstrate a strong understanding of both design functionality and project management
14. An inquisitive individual who is open to learning new skills and gain new experiences
15. Full UK Driving Licence
