Due to an internal move we now have a vacancy for a Deputy Director of Asylum Services (Business Support and Safeguarding). The Deputy Director of Asylum Services at Migrant Help is a pivotal role for driving innovation, change and excellence across the provision of asylum services, with a particular focus on Business Intelligence. The postholder will lead on data assurance and analysis on matters relating to our asylum services. Responsible for leading on operational planning within asylum services, working in partnership with colleagues in line with the values, needs and priorities of the organisation, the Deputy Director of Asylum Services will be an analytical and reflective leader, with a passion for making a difference, ensuring these services support clients of Migrant Help and the achievement of the strategic goals of the organisation.
As the Deputy Director of Asylum Services your duties would include:
Strategic
Working in partnership with the CEO and Senior Management Team and Board of Trustees, to successfully implement and monitor strategic plans
Provide strategic leadership within asylum services, overseeing business intelligence, planning and reporting
Identifying priorities from the strategic plan, translating business requirements into effective practice and delivering in line with business objectives
Leadership
Develop and maintain structures, systems and processes, within the scope of this role, ensuring they remain fit for purpose and appropriate to the size and nature of the work of Migrant Help
Provide leadership of the Business Intelligence processes for Asylum Services
Provide excellent management of Migrant Helps resources to include asylum services staffing
Work closely with the CEO and Board of Trustees to provide effective governance support
Provide a strong leadership presence, through good organisation-wide channels, such as blogs, newsletters, Q&A, Town Halls and staff conferences, as well as participation in Departmental meetings, Task and Finish Groups and Staff Forum
Attend Board, Committee and Management meetings as required to fulfil the governance and leadership responsibilities in line with the role
Operational
Manage the Asylum Business Support Centre, Submissions, Guidance and Safeguarding, Client Experience and associated departmental leaders
Manage the Executive Support provided to the AIRE Senior Management Team
Ensure work within the remit of this is compliant with contractual and legal requirements
Provide leadership in the preparation of budgets for asylum services and the operational activities to align with the budget plans
To work closely with the Home Office to promote the efficient and effective operation of the services in the best interests of asylum seekers and refugees
Contribute to the preparation and execution of contingency and emergency planning
Growth
Development of Heads of Service and Managers within the team to grow future leadership capacity within the organisation
Working collaboratively with other senior managers to enable the overall development of the organisation in line with the strategy
Monitor demand data within Asylum Services to aid in the recruitment planning within those services
Engagement
To maintain and enhance the reputation of Migrant Help by representing the organisation in internal and external meeting and forum
Liaison with Home Office, sector organisations, local authorities and community groups either personally or through direction of staff resources
Promote equality, equity, diversity, inclusion and employee rights and obligations in all actions and activities
Support the Director of Asylum Services to develop and deliver the vision for the organisation taking into account national asylum policy context as well as local, regional or devolved nation circumstances
Ensure visibility throughout the organisation and personally carry out regular visits to all areas (including those areas you do not have direct responsibility for)
Work with clients through our Lived Experience Advisory Panels to coproduce services
The experience and skills you need:
Knowledge of safeguarding principles and experience leading a culture of safeguarding
Demonstrable previous experience in senior role in a complex environment.
Outstanding collaboration to work in partnership with colleagues in senior management
What else to expect
Location Work base is flexible but travel to Head Office and occasionally to Regional Offices and Board meetings will be required
Some meetings may be held outside of normal working hours and at locations across the UK, so flexibility and willingness to accommodate this is required
The post-holder would be part of the senior management team on-call rota
