We are seeking a HR Manager with strong experience gained within a heavy manufacturing or industrial background to join our HR team at Tarmac Aberthaw Cement Plant and Supply Chain and Logistics (South). Whilst this role is predominantly based at Aberthaw, travel to our Supply Chain and Logistics depots will be required occasionally, along with travel to other cement plants across the UK.
This vital HR Manager role is responsible for delivering a comprehensive, commercially focused HR service for one of our largest Cement Plants in the UK. It is a unique opportunity for you to partner with some key business stakeholders whilst working on a wide range of activities such as change initiatives, talent attraction and development, inclusion and diversity, employee engagement and business improvement initiatives.
As well as East Aberthaw, Rhoose and Barry this role is also easily accessible from Cardiff, Newport, Chepstow, Bridgend, Cowbridge, Pontypridd, Porthcawl, Port Talbot, Merthyr Tydfil, Cwmbran, Blackwood and the surrounding areas.
Role Responsibility
Reporting into the Senior HR Manager (Cement and Packed), the role of HR Manager will be responsible for managing all HR at our Aberthaw site as well as for our Supply Chain and Logistics teams in the Southern region.
As HR Manager you will represent the HR function within management teams to ensure national, Business Unit and local priorities and strategies are achieved. This role will also be responsible for:
1. Implementing, monitoring, and adhering to HR policies, initiatives and projects within timescales to support the delivery of the Group objectives
2. Working with colleagues to deliver the business’ strategy on talent attraction, talent identification and development and succession planning
3. Leading on early careers activities, including our educational engagement activities
4. Working with stakeholders to always ensure compliance with employment law and company policies, driving improvements to ensure HR processes are aligned to business needs
5. Coaching and developing the site management teams on all aspects of people management
6. Supporting Supply Chain and Logistics teams to create an enabling and engaging culture
7. Promoting and instilling a culture of consistency, equality, and fairness in our handling of employee relations matters, challenging stakeholders where appropriate
8. Managing good working relationships with Trade Unions - main point of contact for TU representatives across the Aberthaw site, and managing annual wage negotiation process
9. Providing relevant HR KPI data, analysis and insight
10. Driving an absence and performance management culture across the site
11. Co-ordinating the annual performance review process and other such tasks required as part of the annual HR cycle
The Ideal Candidate
Suitable candidates for the role of HR Manager will be CIPD qualified (or equivalent experience) and possess a comprehensive understanding of HR principles and practices. You will also have in depth experience gained within a heavy manufacturing or industrial sector.

12. Good working and practical understanding of employment law and how to deal with employee relations cases
13. Proven track record of supporting business changes such as reorganisations and TUPE transfers
14. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and develop strong relationships with key stakeholders to drive improvements
15. Experience of working in a unionised environment
16. High integrity and ability to successfully challenge, impact and influence others (able to get acceptance of ideas through indirect influence)
17. Personal drive and a desire to succeed and improve
18. Ability to assess, measure and identify key talent and ensure they fit with key organisational drivers
